UI Designer is a Figma-class interface design tool that runs inside VS Code. A design lives in one .design
file next to the code it describes. People draw in a canvas editor; Claude Code and scripts design through the
ud command line tool, which reaches every command the editor has. Both write the same signed events into
the same file, so a design can be reviewed, diffed, merged and versioned with git like any other source.
The prose of SRS-001 (introduction, overall description, the command parity chapter, milestones and appendices), moved from docs/SRS.md on 2026-10-10. The requirement rows are the requirement issues of this board; the milestone rows are the milestone descriptions.
Generated from issue #247 of planning.pb by

- 1. IntroductionThis document states what UI Designer must do to reach version 1.0: the product, its features, the file it edits, the command line surface that AI agents use, and the quality it must meet.
- 2. Overall descriptionUI Designer is the fourth product of the SoftForge VS Code family and follows the same pattern as its siblings:
- 3. Command parity and the CLIThis section comes first because it shapes everything after it: a feature is not done until an agent can use it from the command line.
- 4. Product and platform
- 5. Document, pages and layers
- 6. Canvas and editing
- 7. Drawing tools
- 8. Fills, strokes, effects and appearance
- 9. Text
- 10. Layout
- 11. Components and instances
- 12. Styles, variables and libraries
- 13. Prototyping
- 14. Inspect, handoff and code
- 15. Import and export
- 16. AI designThe AI features are built on the CLI (section 3): the editor's own AI runs Claude Code with the same skills that a user running Claude Code in a terminal gets.
- 17. History, versions and comments
- 18. Integrations
- 19. Subscription and licensingSame commercial model as Project Board (see its licensing.md).
- 20. User interfaceThe editor layout and every screen are specified in UI-001 (#6).
- 21. Non-functional requirements
- 22. MilestonesCapacity: one developer, with Claude Code.
