Uninstalling

Free your seat, remove the ud command and the Claude Code skills, uninstall the extension, and know what stays behind.

1. Free your seat#

  • Signed in: run UI Designer: Sign Out (or Sign out in the Subscription menu). This ends the session on this machine and frees its seat for another one.
  • With a licence key: run UI Designer: Deactivate Licence Key (or Remove licence key in the menu). This forgets the key on this machine, but the seat stays taken until you free it under Manage plan, bills and devices (UI Designer: Manage Subscription).
  • ud license deactivate removes the licence ticket that ud reads (the one the extension wrote, or one you made with ud license activate).

Your plan itself is not cancelled by any of this; cancel it on the payments platform under Manage plan, bills and devices.

2. Remove the Claude Code skills#

UI Designer wrote skills only where you installed them. Delete the five folders:

  • <workspace>/.claude/skills/ui-designer, ui-designer-design-system, ui-designer-from-code, ui-designer-review and ui-designer-to-code (each with its .ud-skill.json when installed by ud skill --install);
  • the same folders in ~/.claude/skills/ if you used ud skill --install --global;
  • the ui-designer entry in the workspace’s .mcp.json if you ran ud mcp install.

3. Uninstall the extension#

Uninstalling UI Designer from the Extensions view.
  • Open the Extensions view (CtrlShiftX)
  • Find UI Designer under Installed
  • Click Uninstall
  • Reload the window if VS Code asks

Or from a terminal:

Uninstall
bash
ud license deactivate
rm -rf .claude/skills/ui-designer .claude/skills/ui-designer-design-system .claude/skills/ui-designer-from-code .claude/skills/ui-designer-review .claude/skills/ui-designer-to-code
code --uninstall-extension SoftForge.softforge-ui-designer
rm -rf ~/.config/Code/User/globalStorage/softforge.softforge-ui-designer

4. Remove the ud shim#

The ud command lives in the extension’s global storage, in bin/ (with ud.cmd and licence-ticket.json). New terminals no longer get it on their PATH once the extension is gone; to remove the files too, delete the folder:

System Folder
Linux ~/.config/Code/User/globalStorage/softforge.softforge-ui-designer/
macOS ~/Library/Application Support/Code/User/globalStorage/softforge.softforge-ui-designer/
Windows %APPDATA%\Code\User\globalStorage\softforge.softforge-ui-designer\

(VS Code Insiders, VSCodium and other editors use their own folder instead of Code.) If you added the bin folder to your shell’s PATH yourself, remove that line from your shell profile.

What stays#

Uninstalling removes the extension, not your work:

Stays Delete it if…
.design files and their .design.assets/ folders you no longer want the designs: they are yours, in your repository
.design-lint.json, .design-ai.md, .design-scripts/ nobody on the team uses UI Designer any more
Generated code and token files (src/generated, tokens.css…) never automatically: they are your code now
.claude/skills/ui-designer*, the .mcp.json entry see step 2
ud.* settings in settings.json VS Code then marks them as unknown settings; delete them by hand
The Figma token in VS Code’s secret storage revoke it in Figma’s settings if you no longer need it
